Start Making Electronic Music

"Creating electronic music can be a thrilling and fulfilling journey for newcomers and seasoned producers alike. Armed with the appropriate gear, software, and know-how, anyone can craft their own distinct melodies and convey their artistic perspective. Don't forget to experiment and try out various methods, and be patient with yourself as the learning process may have its challenges.

What is Electronic Music?

Electronic music is a genre that utilizes electronic musical instruments, digital tools, or technology-based music systems in its formation. This sets it apart from traditional, acoustic musical instruments, where sound is produced by the physical vibration of the instrument itself (such as strings or percussion) or air passing through it (as with wind or brass instruments).

Analog synthesizers and electric organs produce sounds through electrical voltages and circuits, which are then converted into sound using an amplifier. On the other hand, digital instruments rely on more modern technology, replicating the behavior of analog synthesis in binary code. Present-day electronic music heavily relies on computer software, providing unparalleled opportunities and flexibility for digitally creating and manipulating sounds.

Electronic music has evolved throughout the latter half of the 20th century and continues to expand, diversify, and gain popularity. New technology, production methods, and subgenres are continually emerging, making digital music exceptionally dynamic and progressive. While electronic music genres like disco, synth-pop, EDM, and hip-hop have origins in underground scenes, they are increasingly prevalent in the mainstream, commercial music industry. Digital music can be composed entirely using electronic instruments, or it can be a mix of electronic and acoustic elements — for example, integrating synthesizers into a live band set-up, or incorporating real-world sounds into a digital composition."
